Kit-bashing & Scratchbuilding  

When you need a model changed to match your prototype or if there is nothing out on the market to fit you needs TMB Custom Models fills the void by kit-bashing and scratchbuilding any scale and subject model to fit your needs. We can use your existing models for kit bashing, or we can procure the base models and materials. In many cases we use ABS & styrene plastics, but we also use metal, wood and resins to achieve the desired result.

Our scratch-built projects have included a Mi-Jack container Crane, The Hot Spring Opera House, a Schnabel car, and Delaware & Hudson crossing towers. These are projects, which are also featured in our gallery that were built using mostly styrene construction, and built from scaled drawings. The drawings for these models were carefully reviewed, materials were selected that would best represent the actual prototypes, then, jigs and templates were fabricated to ease in assembly. These are the same steps that would be followed in your custom project.

For scratch-built models it is extremely important that we receive good, clear photographs and drawings of your subject. If drawings are not commonly available we can use your photos and notes to complete a series of drawings. Once these drawings are complete they will be submitted for your approval or changes. Work will not begin on the model until we receive all the approvals on the drawings.
